Situated in the heart of north-central Pennsylvania’s PA Wilds region, Clinton County lies at the edge of the Ridge and Valley province. Its diverse topography ranges from rugged, heavily forested mountains in the north to rolling hills and fertile valleys in the south. More than sixty percent of the county consists of public state forest and park lands, offering residents and visitors vast areas for recreation and reflection in pristine natural settings.
The West Branch of the Susquehanna River flows through the county, serving as both a historical corridor and a modern hub for recreation and community events. Lock Haven, our county seat and largest city, provides a lively downtown and is home to Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania’s Lock Haven campus, enriching the area with higher education, cultural activities, and youthful energy.
In the southern valleys, including the 18-mile-long Sugar Valley, generational farms and Amish communities contribute to the local character and economy. Known for their dedication to family, faith, and hard work, the Amish operate successful businesses in agriculture, craftsmanship, and services, adding to the county’s unique appeal.
